Sad but true

Unfortunately, Ross Douthat is right about this. Americans will always prefer a party that goes a little too far trying to protect us than one that doesn't go far enough. Democrats, if they ever regain power, need a muscular foreign policy and yet one that reflects the more edifying strains of this country's traditions of internationalism.

By the way, Ross was a student of mine for one semester. He's apparently smarter than I recall giving him credit for.
